Desi Version of Survivor?!

Posted on

I read a news article in the Times of India about the ‘Survivor Series’ coming to India. Star Plus is bringing the popular series on Indian television. The format for Survivor was created in 1992 by British television producer Charlie Parsons and since then, many countries have produced the series in their own country. It’s time for INDIA!

The Survivor Star Plus Team has been organizing auditions for people across India to come be a part of this ultimate battle of wits, of integrity, of existence amongst most basic of elements (Link: http://starplus.startv.in/survivor-india-ultimate-battle/home.aspx) One very interesting point to note here is unlike other reality competition shows where ACTION is the real deal, Survivor India is inviting the commoners to be a part and live their dream, while earning a few bucks, and of course some added fame.

Let’s get to the format of the show. The foreign version of the show had sixteen to twenty strangers forming four ‘tribes’. During the course of the entire journey, the participants have to compete in individual and/ or as a team to win the challenges. The one who beats all the odds gets crowned as the ULTIMATE SURVIVOR and wins a cash prize of a whopping $1,000,000.

Survivor India will apparently be based on this concept itself. Twenty ordinary, yet extra ordinary people will be fighting to be champions. For the first time on Indian Television, nineteen competitors will leave the island, while One will emerge triumphant …the sole SURVIVOR.

Though the show promises to have the ‘aam aadmi’ as a part of the team, I was wondering if the Indian celebrities would be a part of the screen as well! Reality Tv in India has taken off to another level altogether and none of us would be surprised to see celebrities tip-off the common people and be a part of the show. The biggest question – THE HOST! Who would be the one to get the act right? Who would be the apt celebrity to carry on the International version, giving it a Desi tadka yet make it look big?

After Rakhi Sawant became an instant hit with the not-so-popular ‘Rakhi Ka Insaaf’, moneymakers are betting on her to host the popular series. I wonder if the male contestants would be able to survive a lady, on a stranded island, wearing skimpy clothes and wanting to expose always. When Shweta Tiwari or a Kashmira Shah were photographed taking a HOT shower in ‘Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao’, the male audience went berserk. Will Star Plus take a chance and get someone HOT on board?

Nothing has been disclosed as yet, not the contestants, nor the host. The entire plan is under wraps and remains one mysterious plot. Will ‘Survivor India’ be an instant hit with the audience? Or will it bite the dust? What do you say?

While few will falter and others will stumble, only One will make it across the path to blazing glory, to win ‘SURVIVOR INDIA – THE ULTIMATE BATTLE’.

They definitely wouldn’t be able to survive there.

  4. The concept sounds interesting, but they should give the common people a chance to participate and not have celebrities as usual 🙂
